How can we reduce plastic in our oceans?

Currently, more than 400 million tons of plastic are produced globally every year. However, less than 10% of the 7 billion tons of plastic waste that has been generated globally has been recycled.

Data released by the United Nations Environment Programme shows that plastic makes up the largest, most harmful and longest-lasting share of marine litter, accounting for at least 85% of total marine litter. Plastic pollution makes seabirds and sea turtles accidentally eat plastic products, floating in the ocean after a long period of time after the soaking of plastic garbage, in the waves and the role of the sun's ultraviolet rays, will be decomposed into micro-plastics, micro-plastics into the food chain will result in food safety issues.

So how do we usually reduce plastic for the ocean?

Choose clothing made of natural fiber materials Reduce the purchase of clothing and household products containing synthetic fibers, you can choose clothing made of natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, silk, etc., to reduce the release of plastic fibers during the washing process. Common plastic polymers are: PP polypropylene, PE polyethylene, PET polyethylene terephthalate, PMMA polymethyl methacrylate.

Resource recycling The root of reducing plastic pollution is to reduce the use of plastic products, three major sources of plastic pollution in life are: plastic straws, plastic bags and plastic bottles. Everyday we can: (1) Reduce the use of plastic products. (2) Go out and bring your own cup, reduce the use of disposable cups and bottled water. (3) Carry biodegradable lunch boxes for meals and use canvas bags and other recyclable bags for shopping. (4) Do not use personal care products and cleaning products that contain plastic beads.

Protect the beach environment Whether you go to the beach for swimming or playing, clean up the garbage left behind before you leave, help to collect the waste left behind, actively participate in public welfare activities such as picking up and reducing plastic, and publicize the knowledge of the ocean to your family and friends. Plastic pollution is not limited to the oceans; forests are also experiencing serious plastic pollution problems.

Plastic pollution can cause great damage to the earth's ecosystem, and it is imperative to protect the earth's home!
